DMIA President Addresses Rapaport International Diamond Conference
September 10, 2009 - DMIA President, Ronald J. Friedman was a featured speaker today at the Rapaport International Diamond Conference in New York City. In his speech, Friedman told the conference attendees that for the long term health of the industry, the goal needs to be to decrease the amount of polished diamonds collateralized to banks and for there to be a sell-down of inventories to create liquidity. Open Letter to DMIA Members
February 23, 2009 - The DMIA today sent a letter to its membership cautioning against irresponsible business practices during the current economic downturn. In a letter to the members, President Ronald J. Friedman said that he was attempting to offer suggestions and recommendations which will hopefully enable members of the diamond industry to reduce exposure to market volatility and further losses and potential devastation. In accordance with the "Rough Diamonds Control Regulations" issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury ALL Rough diamond importers and exporters
are required to file an annual report including total import and/or export activity and
stockpile information via email to:
USKimberleyProcess@state.gov.
Reports for activity during the 2009 calendar year must be filed by April 1, 2010. Copies of the Regulations and details regarding the preparation and filing of the Annual Report can be found here

On December 15, 2009, the United States Department of State issued a warning concerning attempts to import rough diamonds into the United States from Ghana and Sierra Leone with counterfeit KPC Certificates. The State Departments warning also addresses other KPC compliance issues. Members can read the full text of the State Department warning here

import rough diamonds from the Republic
of Guinea into the United States with counterfeit KPC
certificates. Members are urged to use
